Logitech Harmony 880

Yes, there are plenty of universal remotes out in the market, but none as geeky as my new remote, the Logitech Harmony 880. I’ve had this thing for a few weeks now and it truly is the most luxurious remote on the market (aside from its more expensive siblings that is). I actually bought it from Dell for $99, but I noticed however that it sells for $139 now.

I have the remote configured to work my TV, TiVO, and surprisingly, my AC. The setup can be a pain in the ass because you have to do it through Logitech’s software. It can be very confusing, but with a little patience, everything should be up and running in a couple of hours. Their database list of devices is massive and if for some reason a particular device is not listed, the remote can actual learn the buttons manually if you have the original remote.

My only complaint is that some of the buttons on the remote came a bit stiff so I have to either break them in or press really hard to get it to respond. I’ve read some people complain about the delay on Logitech universal remotes, but that must be the older models. This particular model is actually very responsive unless I’m changing TV sources. Having this remote I wish I had more devices around to control it with. I guess this is probably the most uneccessary luxury purchase of this year for me. Blame it on my neurotic need to have a centralized control.
